The Master of Arts in Communication Studies provides a curriculum grounded in the principle that communication shapes human identity, relationships, and communities, while ethical and strategic communication can serve as a tool for analyzing, building, and reshaping these fundamental aspects of society. This 30-credit program includes required core courses, electives, and a culminating capstone project.
Our distinguished faculty have earned multiple accolades, including top book and article awards from both the National Communication Association and Carolinas Communication Association, recognition from N.C. Campus Compact, and editorial roles for leading academic journals.
The department holds the distinction of being named the first-ever National Communication Association Center for Communication, Community Collaboration, and Change.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools.
English Language Proficiency: TOEFL: internet based - 79, or paper based - 550. A score of at least 6.5 is required on the IELTS.
