The Ph.D. program specializing in Sport and Exercise Psychology (SEP) is designed to train future scholars and professors in this field through rigorous academic research.
SEP combines theoretical foundations, empirical investigation, and practical application, examining how psychological, emotional, physiological, and social elements affect athletic performance and exercise habits, while also exploring how physical activity impacts mental processes. Doctoral candidates in SEP usually hold master's degrees in Kinesiology or Psychology and choose UNCG to develop expertise in advancing human potential through contemporary SEP research.
UNCG's Kinesiology doctoral program ranks among the nation's top 15 overall and holds the #1 position among R2 institutions (Doctoral Universities with High Research Activity).
SEP faculty members have secured research grants from prestigious organizations including the National Institutes of Health, American College of Sports Medicine, and National Collegiate Athletic Association.
