The Bachelor of Science in Physics equips students with comprehensive physics expertise, mathematical proficiency, and scientific reasoning abilities essential for advanced studies in physics or related quantitative disciplines like nanoscience, materials science, and climate science. This program also establishes a robust foundation for careers in engineering research & development, tech-focused entrepreneurship, roles requiring quantitative analysis and modeling, as well as science and mathematics education.

Our intimate department fosters close collaboration between faculty and students on research initiatives spanning observational astronomy, image processing, astrophysics, biophysics, computational modeling, electronics, particle physics, and science education.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Drs. Aarnio and Miroshnichenko oversee the Three College Observatory, utilizing it for both faculty and student research while hosting public observation events and academic excursions.
Additionally, the department manages the UNCG Planetarium, serving astronomy coursework and the Triad community. Its Spitz projection system vividly renders celestial bodies—including stars, planets, and our solar system's primary objects—across its 20-foot domed interior.
