The Post-Master's Certificate program focuses on specialized coursework in advanced nursing practice (requiring at least 20 graduate-level credits). Designed for nurses with existing master's degrees, this certification enables them to specialize as Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners. Those already certified in Psychiatric, Women's Health, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialties may qualify for course exemptions in their respective focus areas. Graduates become eligible to sit for either the ANCC or AANP certification exams for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners. All program requirements must be fulfilled within a four-year period. This AGACNP program operates as an intensive, on-campus experience requiring full-time commitment.

A master's degree in nursing from a college or university accredited by an accepted accrediting body
Unencumbered North Carolina License as a Registered Nurse
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 in MSN degree
Statement of Purpose explaining the applicant's career goal and preparation in relation to acute care nurse practitioner role, and qualities making them a strong applicant (See School of Nursing website for required elements of the Statement of Purpose). (Note: Statement of Purpose should not exceed two double-spaced typed pages.)
References should be from professional colleagues and should speak to clinical knowledge and expertise and one's ability to function as a member of the healthcare team.At least one reference from a supervisory person is preferred.
Graduate Health Assessment course equivalent within the last 5 years
Graduate Pharmacology course equivalent within the last 5 years
Graduate Pathophysiology within the last 5 years
A minimum score of 83 on the Internet-based TOEFL or a minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS is required.
