The 16-credit Graduate Certificate in Teaching - Middle Grades and Secondary Education prepares bachelor's degree holders for teaching careers through coursework and student teaching. Successful graduates qualify for North Carolina's SP1 Professional Educator's License. This program serves both current Residency Teachers and future educators in middle/high school subjects including STEM, humanities, and Career/Tech fields.
The certificate curriculum matches Phase I of the M.A.T. program, allowing graduates to potentially continue into Phase II for full master's completion. Note: Certificate admission doesn't guarantee M.A.T. program acceptance. For details about transitioning to the M.A.T., see the Middle Grades and Secondary Education program information.
