The Adams School of Dentistry provides a 22-month graduate program that awards a Master of Science in dental hygiene education, equipping students for roles in teaching, administration, research, and leadership. This program focuses on developing outstanding educators for allied dental education through an advanced curriculum.
The program strengthens expertise in education, leadership, administration, and research within dental education and practice. It features an interdisciplinary approach, with courses offered through the Adams School of Dentistry, UNC School of Education, and Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Dental hygienists should integrate national health goals into their professional work. Practitioners, as the most visible representatives of the field, must base their decisions on research and clinical evidence, both in and beyond research settings.
Guided by the National Dental Hygiene Research Agenda (NDHRA), hygienists can focus on priority research areas to advance the profession. The dental community should utilize the NDHRA to shape research, improve patient care, enhance service quality, and support professional growth.
