Students exploring the Environment, Climate and Health Concentration recognize the inseparable connection between planetary health and human wellbeing. They seek to develop creative approaches to pressing environmental, climatic, and health issues: ensuring fair access to renewable energy, providing clean water to at-risk youth, preventing infections in living and recreational spaces, and implementing cost-effective measures that benefit both public health and environmental sustainability. For aspiring public health leaders committed to building a just, sustainable, and healthy world, this Gillings MPH program offers specialized training. The concentration—uniquely positioned within both the Gillings School of Global Public Health and the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering—provides practical knowledge to assess and reduce health risks from environmental and climate changes. Our program combines customized coursework with hands-on learning, preparing graduates to tackle diverse exposure risks including climate-related dangers, new airborne pollutants, waterborne pathogens, and occupational health threats. We invite applicants passionate about solving challenges at both community and international levels.
The minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree (based on a four-year curriculum) completed before graduate study begins or its international equivalent with an accredited institution; an average grade of B (cumulative GPA 3.0) or better.
The required minimum total score on the exams are internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, The IELTS exam = 7.
