The Classics Department at UNC Chapel Hill merges traditional philology, archaeology, and art studies with contemporary critical methods, providing graduate students with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary perspective on ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. The department features graduate programs for both MA and PhD degrees, including Classics, Classical Archaeology, Classics with Historical Emphasis, Classical and Medieval Latin. While all doctoral candidates must first earn an MA, the department exclusively accepts students pursuing PhD completion, with no standalone MA program available.
