Graduate students in UNC-Chapel Hill's Department of Geography and Environment enjoy a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting, engagement in our externally-funded research initiatives, and chances to participate in teaching and departmental leadership. The program provides both MA and PhD options, primarily emphasizing PhD candidates who may join with or without an existing MA. Our vibrant department features specialized focus areas including: Earth & Environment, Geographic Information Sciences & Geovisualization, Culture, Society & Space, Globalization & International Development, and Nature & Society.
The minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree (based on a four-year curriculum) completed before graduate study begins or its international equivalent with an accredited institution; an average grade of B (cumulative GPA 3.0) or better.
The required minimum total score on the exams are internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, The IELTS exam = 7.
