The Marine Sciences Graduate Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers comprehensive education and research opportunities in estuarine, coastal, and oceanographic sciences, culminating in M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Most master's candidates join the program with an undergraduate degree in fundamental sciences or engineering disciplines such as physics, chemistry, geology, biology, oceanography, marine sciences, meteorology, mathematics, computer science, environmental science, or various engineering fields. Applicants without a relevant master's degree begin as M.S. candidates. In rare cases, students with a master's in a less directly related discipline may also start at the M.S. level. Those holding a master's degree in Marine Sciences or a closely aligned field may enter directly into the Ph.D. track.

Qualification Requirements

Admission to the graduate program in marine sciences requires completion of an undergraduate degree in one of the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering with a “B” average or better. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the field, a broad undergraduate foundation in the sciences is recommended, including mathematics through calculus, statistics, and at least some basic coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and geology.

The required minimum total score on the exams are internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, The IELTS exam = 7.
