The Classics Department at UNC Chapel Hill merges expertise in classical philology, archaeology, and art history with contemporary analytical methods, providing graduate students with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary perspective on ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. The department features graduate programs culminating in MA degrees in Greek, Latin, and Classical Archaeology, as well as PhD tracks in Classics, Classics with Historical Focus, Classical and Medieval Latin, and Classical Archaeology. While no standalone MA program exists, the department exclusively accepts candidates pursuing doctoral studies, with the MA serving as a required stepping stone toward PhD candidacy.
Entering students usually have an undergraduate major in Greek, Latin, or archaeology, with supporting courses in other areas such as philosophy, literature, linguistics, art, anthropology, or religion.
The required minimum total score on the exams are internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, The IELTS exam = 7.
