Mathematics has long served as a cornerstone of human intellect and civilization, with modern technological advancements amplifying its significance.
Mathematics majors can pursue either a B.A. or B.S. degree. The B.S. track offers more extensive training, equipping students for careers or advanced studies in mathematics and allied disciplines. The B.S. program includes an applied concentration tailored for those focusing on mathematical applications in other scientific fields. MATH 521 serves as a pivotal course, with MATH 381 being essential preparation for it. These courses should form the foundation of the degree plan, typically completed during students' second and third years.
Graduates of the mathematics program (B.A., B.S.) will be able to:
Exhibit proficiency in core mathematical concepts endorsed by national mathematics associations
Apply mathematical logic and problem-solving techniques effectively
Formulate coherent logical arguments and mathematical proofs
Utilize mathematical knowledge practically and analyze outcomes meaningfully
