Our most rigorous program, the Bachelor of Music serves as the conventional path for students aiming to advance their musical education at graduate and professional levels. Offering specializations in diverse fields like composition, music history, instrumental performance, and jazz studies, among others, this degree provides an excellent groundwork for further musical pursuits. The strings department at UNC encompasses training in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and guitar, available for both majors and non-majors. Performance opportunities abound, ranging from solo recitals to orchestral participation and various chamber music ensembles. Alumni from this department have established successful careers as concert soloists, symphony members, university educators, K-12 music teachers, and private studio instructors. Some continue their musical engagement through chamber groups and local orchestras while working in other professional fields.
