UNC Chapel Hill boasts a renowned jazz performance tradition. The Jazz Studies program enables students to participate in the UNC Jazz Band, jazz combos, and Charanga Carolina. Available courses feature private instruction, jazz theory, improvisation classes, jazz history, arranging, and the UNC Summer Jazz Workshop. The Jazz Band and combos present multiple campus concerts each semester, frequently collaborating with visiting artists who conduct masterclasses and perform alongside students. Recent guest clinicians have included notable names like Andre Hayward, Sara Caswell, Alphonso Horne, and the Marcus Roberts Trio.
