Geography explores the study of spatial relationships, locations, and natural surroundings. The department provides courses across both social and natural sciences, equipping students with skills in qualitative and quantitative methods, spatial modeling, and laboratory techniques. Human geography focuses on how people interact with spaces, while physical geography examines climate patterns, terrain formations, soil types, and water systems. Key geographic tools like GIS, remote sensing, and digital mapping technologies are vital for analyzing and interpreting our intricate world. Geographic research spans from global to local scales, integrates multiple disciplines, and develops expertise crucial for addressing critical challenges valued by employers and policymakers.
All students will be expected to have completed the pre-university curriculum (Secondary School/High School) in their country prior to enrolling at UNC-Chapel Hill. English Language Tests: TOEFL minimum is 100; IELTS minimum is 7.0; PTE minimum is 68.
