The College of Education and Human Development provides a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance and Health Promotion (HPHP). This curriculum equips students for careers focused on improving personal and public health while encouraging active lifestyles. Earning an HPHP degree demonstrates the ability to positively impact health and wellness at both individual and community levels. Note that this degree program does not include teacher certification.
Specialization Options
Students can choose between two focus areas: Health Promotion or Exercise Physiology. Each concentration concludes with a community-based internship, allowing students to gain hands-on experience while working alongside industry professionals.
Exercise Physiology Focus
Those selecting exercise physiology develop expertise in kinesiology, motor learning, and physiological responses to physical activity. This knowledge prepares them to help individuals optimize their physical capabilities, whether for health benefits or athletic achievement. The curriculum teaches practical applications of exercise science in health, fitness, and sports environments.
Health Promotion Focus
The health promotion track teaches students to design and assess community health initiatives for diverse populations. The program emphasizes creating effective illness prevention methods and enhancing quality of life. Participants acquire comprehensive skills for planning, executing, and analyzing health promotion programs applicable across various healthcare contexts.
