Designed for students aiming for a career in performance, this program focuses on honing technique, musicality, and repertoire for their primary instrument or voice. Students receive personalized instruction while participating in major ensembles (such as band, orchestra, chorus) and/or chamber groups as suitable. UNM boasts New Mexico's most extensive performance faculty, offering one-on-one mentorship across all degree programs. Our distinguished faculty bring decades of combined performance and teaching expertise to students. The program covers seven core performance disciplines: Brass, Guitar, Keyboard, Percussion, Strings, Vocal, and Woodwinds.

Qualification Requirements

A candidate for the Master of Music degree must have an undergraduate degree in music from an accredited college or equivalent proficiency. An applicant without a music degree will be required to take a proctored test before being admitted, he or she may have to do undergraduate work before becoming a graduate student.
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a U.S. 4.0 scale) or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) work and in any graduate work already completed.
