The University of New Mexico (UNM) Manufacturing Engineering Program (MEP), a cross-disciplinary graduate initiative within the School of Engineering (SOE), provides a Master of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering (MEME) degree. This program features specialized tracks in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM, 33 credit hours), Mechanical and Equipment Manufacturing (MEM, 33 credit hours), and Semiconductor and Microsystems Manufacturing (SMM, 31 credit hours). While students may choose a research thesis, most opt for an industry-based manufacturing project or complete coursework exclusively. The previously mandatory three-month Industrial Internship has been discontinued, though gaining practical manufacturing experience remains strongly recommended.
The MEP foundational courses incorporate two MBA-level classes from UNM's Anderson Schools of Management (ASM), focusing on managerial economics (MGMT-504) and organizational behavior (MGMT-506). The SMM specialization features a unique core curriculum addressing semiconductor and microelectronics design, processing techniques, and facility operations. Detailed program requirements can be found under the Curricula section.
