The Department of Languages, Cultures, and Literatures provides Master's and Doctoral programs in French studies. These degree programs deliver thorough, in-depth education in French literary traditions, critical theory, and analytical methods. Our professors pursue interdisciplinary research and instruction, connecting literature and cultural examination to diverse areas including philosophical aesthetics, film theory, musical interpretation, legal frameworks, historical politics, social anthropology, psychological theories, identity studies, and colonial/postcolonial research. Faculty expertise spans the entire chronology of French and Francophone scholarship, covering Medieval periods, Renaissance thought, Enlightenment philosophy, post-Revolutionary developments, through to modern Francophone analysis. Specialized research and teaching focus extends across Francophone regions including North African nations, Sub-Saharan territories, Québec, Caribbean islands, plus immigrant populations within France itself.
