Qualification Requirements

Although some academic units at the University of New Mexico admit students with a bachelor's degree directly into a doctoral program, most admit only students who have earned a master's degree within the same or a different program at the University of New Mexico or at another accredited institution.
Although each application is reviewed individually, it is expected that the applicant will have maintained a 3.0 or better average in the last two years (or the last 65 semester credit hours, if on a part-time basis) of study and in his or her major field.
