The Bachelor of Science in Signed Language Interpreting program consists of 120 credit hours, with 40 credits dedicated to the major. Upon acceptance into the program, students receive an academic advisor to guide them through prerequisite courses and curriculum sequencing. The initial two years concentrate on developing proficiency in signed languages, particularly American Sign Language. The final two years emphasize interpreting skills, transliteration techniques, and cultural awareness studies. Enrollment in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the Signed Language Interpreting Program is selective and requires a competitive application process. This curriculum trains students to become professional interpreters capable of simultaneous translation in American Sign Language.
