Printmaking has served as the foundational lens for understanding and distributing all artistic mediums, while maintaining its unique identity as an art form. The UNM Printmaking program provides training in diverse techniques such as Intaglio, Lithography, Monotype, Relief, Serigraphy, and Digital Processes. Beyond conventional methods, students explore the medium's evolving significance in contemporary art through cross-disciplinary experimentation. A standout feature is the Collaborative Lithography course, conducted in conjunction with the prestigious Tamarind Institute.
In this course, Tamarind's apprentice printers work alongside UNM students to produce limited lithographic editions. The Printmaking program also engages in yearly community initiatives, partnering with public schools, nonprofits, and social service organizations across the globe. With a vibrant printmaking community in the Southwest, UNM Printmaking plays a pivotal leadership role in this artistic network.
