A clinical nurse leader (CNL) manages the coordinated care for a specific patient population and may directly handle complex patient cases. CNLs implement evidence-based methods to incorporate cutting-edge care advancements, monitor patient results, evaluate group risks, and possess the autonomy to modify treatment strategies as needed. These professionals collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, working alongside doctors, pharmacists, social workers, nurse specialists, and other providers to coordinate and deliver care. CNLs serve as pivotal leaders in healthcare across various environments. During their final term, program candidates take the CNL certification examination.

Instructors engage in diverse research areas such as addiction treatment and harm reduction, online education, telehealth services, healthcare IT, LGBTQ+ healthcare optimization, family-centered nursing, rural health initiatives, and climate-related health impacts. Students gain hands-on experience through clinical placements at local and regional hospitals, teaching facilities, community health centers, primary care clinics, and other urban and rural healthcare sites throughout New England, with potential additional locations available upon approval.
