The study of ecosystem science plays a vital role in sustaining agricultural productivity, environmental balance, and the wellbeing of humans, animals, and plants. This program focuses on examining soil, groundwater, and surface water ecology, microbiology, and biogeochemistry, highlighting the interconnected relationships within ecosystems. Our Master of Science in ecosystem science equips graduates for professional opportunities in environmental consulting, regulatory compliance, conservation work, and research across academic and industry settings.
Students pursuing the Ecosystem Science specialization generally come with solid foundations in environmental studies, earth sciences, ecology, or similar disciplines. Research focuses explore soil, groundwater, and surface water systems, particularly how ecosystem components work together to respond to management practices, climate shifts, and other disturbances. Key research areas include carbon sequestration processes, nutrient cycling dynamics, water quality factors, soil vitality, and greenhouse gas emissions - all critical topics investigated by students in this specialization.
International applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as a precondition for applying to any of our graduate programs. In some cases, you may also need a master’s degree or its equivalent.

Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: February 15; Spring: December 1.
