Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching for secondary education to develop the expertise, practical skills, and confidence needed for modern classrooms. This program combines subject knowledge, educational research, theory, and hands-on experience in diverse school settings. You'll learn to promote collaboration, compassion, and academic growth through internships in urban and rural schools serving varied cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic populations. The M.A.T. program provides certification for teaching subjects like English, mathematics, sciences, social studies, world languages, music, and visual arts at the secondary level. Our educator preparation cultivates teacher-leaders who excel in classroom practice while advancing educational excellence.
The University of New Hampshire offers flexible entry points - either as a graduate student or through our accelerated master's pathway. Undergraduate participants start with foundational coursework and a semester of field experience before transitioning to a fifth-year internship and graduate studies. This culminates in both the M.A.T. degree and teaching certification. Throughout the program, you'll engage with critical issues facing diverse learning environments, with special opportunities available through UNH Manchester's urban-focused teacher preparation initiatives.
