First-year students enrolling in the Bachelor of Science (BS) program at UNH can opt to pursue either an introductory Master's Degree (MS) or an entry-level Clinical Doctoral degree (OTD). According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, both degrees qualify graduates to take the national certification exam for occupational therapists, conducted by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), to begin their professional journey. An entry-level OTD equips students with comprehensive foundational knowledge in occupational therapy evaluation and treatment, along with enhanced clinical expertise, leadership capabilities, advocacy training, research skills, and program design. During their doctoral studies, students will engage with occupational therapy concepts across conventional and innovative practice domains, working in both hospital environments and community settings with individuals and broader populations. The program empowers graduates with critical competencies to emerge as industry leaders, progress professionally, and drive meaningful change in policies and practices.
