Sociology examines social structures and interactions within communities, whether large or small. It explores how groups shape individual choices and actions, as well as how individuals can impact collective dynamics. Through this field, you'll develop research skills, data analysis techniques, and statistical methods while investigating pressing issues like racial discrimination, gender disparities, community-environment relationships, religious influences, substance abuse, and psychological well-being. This foundation prepares graduates for careers or advanced studies in counseling, social work, healthcare administration, business leadership, teaching, market research, law enforcement, and public policy.
UNH's sociology curriculum equips students to thrive in our interconnected, technology-rich global society. The program emphasizes scientific investigation, digital proficiency, and cross-cultural understanding while refining creative problem-solving and effective communication abilities. Students collaborate directly with professors on research initiatives and pursue independent academic projects. Each spring, Perspectives - the department's student-led digital publication - showcases outstanding undergraduate work. The program actively supports international learning experiences, including UNH's signature Budapest-based justice studies program led by university faculty, to broaden students' worldviews.
