Communication examines how meaning is constructed, exchanged, and influenced. It encompasses both in-person interactions through speech and body language, as well as technological channels ranging from ancient writing systems to modern social platforms. This academic program investigates communication's impact on human relationships, cultural exchanges, business sectors, and technological developments. By studying rhetoric, media analysis, and social discourse, students discover how various communication methods influence perception and societal dynamics. We aim to develop thoughtful citizens and proficient communication specialists equipped for diverse careers spanning corporate environments, marketing sectors, grassroots activism, and public service.
Communication students analyze pressing political matters, current affairs, cultural trends, and interpersonal exchanges among acquaintances, relatives, coworkers, community participants, and unfamiliar individuals. Beyond classroom learning, students can develop digital media skills in our cutting-edge Communication Media Lab, participate in multimedia research projects with UNH CAMRA involving digital, film, audio, and web-based formats, contribute to community dialogues through the Civil Discourse Lab, organize professional development activities with Lambda Pi Eta honor society, and acquire practical skills through specialized communication internships.
