The University of Nevada, Reno's Master of Fine Arts program delivers an interdisciplinary approach, blending extensive visual arts training with focused studio specialization. This advanced degree merges art history, theory, and critique with hands-on studio work, enabling students to integrate knowledge at an elevated level while pursuing innovative research and meaningful artistic creation. Participants benefit from personalized mentorship with our distinguished faculty, along with private 24-hour studio access and approved use of art lab facilities. Our dynamic visiting artist program connects students with both national and international professionals for individual studio consultations.
Art Department studies span diverse two and three-dimensional disciplines including (but not limited to): book arts, ceramics, digital media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. This studio curriculum is complemented by rigorous engagement with contemporary art practices and critical theory.
The MFA program's cross-disciplinary nature liberates students from medium-specific constraints, fostering exploration of innovative visual forms to best articulate their concepts. Participants will challenge conventional artistic boundaries while drawing from art history, critical theory, and other academic fields. The curriculum equally values artistic production and its intellectual, conceptual, and societal frameworks.
