The Master of Arts program aims to achieve several key objectives:
To provide advanced, specialized political science coursework culminating in a graduate degree
To equip students for doctoral studies and careers in political science
To enable career preparation in teaching, politics, government service, or professional enhancement
To facilitate university research on political and policy-related matters
The political science curriculum encompasses all aspects of the discipline, including both content and methodological approaches. Research methods courses develop analytical skills for examining political systems, institutions, and policies. Students pursue specialized interests through independent study courses and research projects.
The non-thesis track is ideal for working professionals seeking career advancement through their degree. While no thesis is required, students must complete extra coursework to show mastery of their major field before taking comprehensive exams.
The M.A. curriculum delivers thorough disciplinary knowledge and methodological training. Students focus on American Politics, Political Theory, Public Policy, International Relations, or Comparative Politics. Our department prioritizes undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service. With small class sizes, students benefit from close collaboration with faculty and senior peers to customize programs aligning with their academic and professional aspirations.
Program objectives include:
delivering advanced political science coursework for graduate degree completion,
preparing students for Ph.D. programs and political science careers,
supporting career development in education, government, or professional growth,
promoting university research on political and policy issues.
The curriculum spans all dimensions of political science, blending theoretical and methodological approaches. Research methods training develops sophisticated analytical capabilities for studying political phenomena, while independent coursework allows students to explore specialized interests.
