The Physics Department provides advanced degree programs culminating in either a Master of Science (M.S.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics. Students begin with two years of foundational coursework covering essential subjects like Mathematical Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics, and Statistical Mechanics.
For the M.S. degree, candidates can choose between completing a research thesis alongside core classes or passing a Comprehensive Examination after finishing their coursework.
Ph.D. candidates engage in research activities from their first two years onward. Later, they focus on a specific physics specialization for their dissertation research.
These programs equip graduates for professional paths in scientific investigation or academia. The curriculum offers comprehensive training in fundamental physics principles while introducing specialized areas. Doctoral research, the cornerstone of the Ph.D. program, serves to develop students into independent researchers while contributing new discoveries to our understanding of the physical world.
Application deadlines: Feb 1 (Fall) | Nov 1 (Spring)
