The Economics Ph.D. program delivers thorough instruction in both economic theory and applied methods, along with specialized areas selected by each candidate. Its core objective is to develop students' analytical and quantitative capabilities for conducting original economic research. Graduates with advanced research expertise are in high demand across various sectors, including government agencies, private corporations, and academic settings.
Additionally, the Department provides Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees. The M.S. program builds essential technical and quantitative competencies for doctoral studies or careers demanding rigorous analytical skills. This curriculum delivers fundamental training in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic principles, and econometric methods. Participants may demonstrate their learning through thesis research (six optional credits) or opt for additional coursework instead. The M.A. program similarly focuses on technical and quantitative training but offers greater flexibility through reduced core requirements and expanded elective options. Both graduate degrees effectively equip students for professional roles in applied economics, financial services, banking institutions, legal fields, and other analytical professions.
