The Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology (CMPP) program focuses on deepening knowledge about human biology and developing medical solutions for diseases. This interdisciplinary program awards Doctor of Philosophy degrees, with an option for medical students to pursue a combined M.D./Ph.D. degree. The dynamic curriculum explores cutting-edge research in physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, and cellular biology.
Doctoral candidates can customize their research focus based on personal interests, career objectives, and skills. The four-year program equips students for successful careers in pharmacology or physiology, featuring a diverse student body with about 30% international representation and emphasis on underrepresented communities.
Faculty members in the CMPP Graduate Program currently oversee research projects totaling over $45 million, investigating key areas such as: Cardiovascular Biology, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
Diabetes and Digestive System Disorders, Neuromuscular and Movement Conditions, Neural Function Studies
Infectious Diseases and Inflammatory Processes, Intestinal Motility Regulation
The curriculum prepares graduates for research careers in academia, government, or industry through a flexible core curriculum and specialized courses. Students receive personalized mentorship to develop expertise in experimental methods, data analysis, scientific communication, funding acquisition, and lab administration.
