The Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology equips students with essential knowledge for advanced studies in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. A graduate degree serves as the minimum qualification for both professions and is mandatory for national certification and state licensing. Speech Pathology majors will complete their initial 25 clinical hours toward certification by successfully participating in the Observation of Clinical Services course (SPA 345). Throughout the undergraduate program, students develop comprehensive understanding of typical neurological and physical structures related to communication and hearing, study communication development, acquire skills in speech and language transcription/analysis, and learn introductory concepts about communication disorders across the lifespan. Practical clinical experiences and service learning projects enable students to translate academic knowledge into real-world applications.

Core major courses are enhanced by studies in biological, physical, and social sciences, statistics, linguistics, human development, and counseling techniques. Students can further expand their expertise in complementary fields like education, human development, community health sciences, psychology, biology, or social work based on individual interests. Undergraduate research opportunities with faculty mentorship are also offered to Speech Pathology students.
Upon completion, students will:
possess foundational knowledge of speech and hearing anatomy and physiology.
understand typical speech and language development processes at an introductory level.
grasp basic diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for Communication Disorders.
