The nutrition program integrates the science of nutrition with coursework examining economic, political, and cultural influences on food accessibility for individuals and communities. As a nutrition student, you'll explore food through multiple lenses including medical, agricultural, scientific, and public health perspectives.
The major offers two concentrations: dietetics (preparing students for careers as nutritionists) and nutritional science (focusing on the biological, physiological, and chemical foundations of nutrition). Both concentrations incorporate natural science coursework along with professional training in patient care and nutritional therapy.
Each pathway includes hands-on learning experiences through community internships or research projects in advanced laboratories. Faculty mentors will guide you in selecting courses and experiential learning opportunities aligned with your professional aspirations.
Students will develop the ability to:
understand the scientific principles underlying nutrition studies.
evaluate and critically assess scientific research to inform evidence-based nutritional practices.
