Unlike disciplines like neuroscience that concentrate on the brain's physical anatomy, psychology investigates human behavior to gain insights into mental processes. Since the brain drives nearly all actions, analyzing behavior offers psychologists tangible evidence about how the mind functions.

Modern psychology employs various theoretical frameworks to interpret behavior. While psychology is commonly associated with human behavior, researchers may examine subjects ranging from primates to birds to single-celled organisms.

Psychological approaches vary significantly - some prioritize biological mechanisms (biological perspective), while others disregard physiological factors entirely. Certain psychologists emphasize exploring unconscious thoughts (psychoanalytic approach), whereas others focus on mental frameworks influencing performance (cognitive perspective). Alternatively, some researchers analyze observable actions, rejecting the separation of mind from behavior (behavioral perspective). The field remains diverse in its methodologies and viewpoints. You'll need to determine which psychological approach resonates most with your interests.

Research areas encompass neurophysiology, cognitive processes, developmental psychology, psychopathology, and comparative animal behavior.
