The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism empowers students to transform their love for storytelling into professional opportunities across news, documentaries, advertising, public relations, film production, Spanish-language media, and visual communication. Through hands-on training in the school's production facilities, agencies, and media collaborations, students gain real-world experience. Students will develop the ability to:
write effectively using formats and tones suited to professional communication contexts, target audiences, and objectives.
grasp fundamental concepts and implement theories when creating and presenting visual and informational content.
understand and apply free speech and press freedoms, including rights to challenge authority, scrutinize power structures, and advocate for change.
comprehend journalism's ethical foundations and apply these principles to pursue truthful, accurate, fair, and inclusive reporting.
recognize diverse populations (encompassing gender, racial, ethnic, religious, age, and LGBTQ+ communities) and their global relationship to media.
perform thorough research and assess information using industry-standard methodologies.
To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school. You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno.
Verification of having met the English requirement through one of the following options: TOEFL score 61+; IELTS (must be academic version) with a score of 6.0+; Duolingo English Exam score 95+; Cambridge score of B2+.
