The Astronomy M.S. and Ph.D. programs aim to equip students for careers in Astronomy or Astrophysics research, or for teaching positions at universities. Each student follows a personalized curriculum designed by their advisor and advisory committee. For the M.S. degree, students can choose between two paths: a coursework-based option involving graduate-level Astronomy classes and an exam, or a thesis track where they develop research formulation, execution, and reporting skills. Ph.D. candidates must complete original, independent research.
The M.S. program typically requires two years, while the Ph.D. program generally takes three to five years to complete.
