The Master of Music program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) offers four specialized tracks: music education, music performance, jazz studies, and conducting. The 30-credit music performance and jazz programs focus on practical musicianship, complemented by studies in music history, theory, and teaching methods. Students gain valuable experience through performances and internships with renowned local organizations like Opera Omaha, Omaha Performing Arts, the Jewell, and the Omaha Symphony. The music education concentration, also 30 credits, focuses on teaching methodologies, practical music applications, and research-based approaches for educators across all levels, with flexible scheduling options including online and summer courses. The 30-hour conducting program provides personalized conducting training with extensive ensemble experience, supported by coursework in music history, literature, and theory. This concentration offers in-person, online, or hybrid formats, though online students must secure an approved off-campus ensemble for their audition.
As a dynamic urban university, UNO combines academic excellence with community engagement through innovative programs, faculty research, and public service initiatives. The School of Music's Master of Music degrees maintain full accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), ensuring graduates receive a respected, high-quality education that serves both their professional aspirations and community needs.
