The systems development certificate is available to individuals holding an associate or bachelor's degree in information technology. Current UNO students pursuing the Division of Continuing Studies' Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies with an IT-focused concentration, as well as undergraduates in any College of IS&T degree program, may also participate. Professionals in systems development work to enhance information system design, deployment, and utilization for organizational effectiveness. Information systems and quantitative analysis applies computing, mathematics, statistics, and other quantitative methods to solve diverse business challenges. Where computer science frequently emphasizes creating computational tools, information systems specifically target the practical application of these tools to address common business issues. Management information systems (MIS) involves procuring, implementing, and overseeing information technology resources. This field covers enterprise-wide systems, departmental solutions, and individual technologies, including their development and administration. MIS professionals also evaluate and integrate emerging technologies into organizational strategies and operations. The College of IS&T's undergraduate certificates provide non-degree holders with specialized, career-focused education opportunities that can be formally recognized and potentially transferred toward a bachelor's degree program if desired.
