The United States consistently requires skilled language educators. Today's teachers frequently encounter classrooms with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Our English Department provides a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate program. This 15-credit program consists of five courses, typically completed within three to four semesters.
Our TESOL faculty developed this certificate to quickly familiarize students with language theory and teaching methods. The program begins with ENGL 3610 Introduction to Linguistics, establishing fundamentals for advanced coursework. Subsequent classes focus on English language specifics, enabling you to effectively teach phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, and semantics. The curriculum also covers adult language acquisition theories and practical teaching methodologies for language instruction and course design.
