This program equips aspiring educators to work with children and adolescents who have disabilities. It trains individuals to become certified special education teachers for elementary or secondary schools. The curriculum aligns with or surpasses the Council for Exceptional Children's (CEC) entry-level standards for special education teacher preparation. The Special Education and Communication Disorders department aims to develop committed professionals, thoughtful researchers, and engaged community members who excel at developing, managing, and assessing programs for people with disabilities. Through comprehensive training, students gain the knowledge, abilities, and professional attitudes required by the Council for Exceptional Children, the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (for graduate studies), along with state and federal guidelines.
