This program prepares candidates for professional roles supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. As part of our educator training curriculum, participants must complete a dual certification combining deaf/hard-of-hearing education with either elementary or secondary education. The curriculum aligns with the Council for Exceptional Children/Council of the Deaf (CEC/CED) standards for educators specializing in deaf/hard-of-hearing instruction. Our Special Education and Communication Disorders department aims to develop committed professionals, thoughtful researchers, and engaged community members who excel at developing, managing, and assessing programs for people with disabilities. We achieve this through comprehensive training that builds essential knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes as defined by the Council for Exceptional Children, the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (for graduate studies), along with state and federal educational requirements.
