A Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with an Education Concentration demands at least 39 credit hours in Chemistry coursework and another 39 credits through the College of Education. The Chemistry Department, accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS), provides both Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programs. Students have three B.S. track options. The standard B.S. in Chemistry prepares graduates for careers as industrial or government chemists, advanced chemistry or biochemistry studies, or professional medical fields. The Medicinal Chemistry concentration suits those pursuing health-related careers, life sciences graduate programs, or professional studies like pharmacy or medicine. The Education concentration prepares future high school chemistry teachers or those aiming for higher-level instruction while refining teaching abilities during their undergraduate studies. The B.A. program is ideal for chemical technologists and pre-professional students, especially those focusing on non-health science disciplines.
