The UNO English Department strives to enhance literacy and cultural understanding among university students as well as Omaha residents and nearby communities. Professors actively participate in the Service Learning Academy, local high schools, regional literary organizations, public speaking events, writing contests, various publishing platforms, and global programs like Fulbright and CLEPS. Students can earn a Bachelor of Arts in English by choosing from five specialized tracks, designed with flexible course options to enable smooth transitions between concentrations. Options include Creative Nonfiction, Language Studies, American Literature, British/Irish/Anglophone Literature, and Secondary Education for grades 7-12.
