The primary goal of the Black Studies program is to equip students with the ability to analyze, research, and interpret the rich histories, societies, and cultures of African-descended populations across the United States, Africa, and the global Diaspora. This learning is framed within broader discussions about its significance for understanding the full spectrum of human existence. Currently, the Black Studies department provides a major program culminating in a B.S. degree. To earn this degree, majors need to fulfill 33 credit hours within the discipline, along with 15 hours of complementary coursework from other fields. These cognate courses are developed collaboratively between students and their academic advisors.
