The interdisciplinary Great Plains Studies specialization explores human-environment interactions in the region's low-population areas. Spanning from the Missouri River to the Rockies and from the Rio Grande to Canada's prairie provinces, this academic focus operates through the College of Arts and Sciences. The Center for Great Plains Studies, authorized by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents across all campuses, serves as the interdisciplinary hub for this regional research and education initiative. Graduate students pursuing degrees in various UNL programs - including Agricultural Sciences, Anthropology/Geography, Architecture, Economics, and several others - can qualify for this specialization alongside their primary studies.
