Teaching early reading skills in schools and local communities has become a nationwide priority. Since the initial evaluations of Head Start initiatives in the 1970s, improving early literacy education has been central to educational improvements, with numerous colleges and K-12 school systems creating initiatives to strengthen early reading programs. Furthermore, graduates of the Early Literacy Certificate Program will have made significant progress toward earning Nebraska's Pre-K through 12th Grade Reading Specialist Endorsement if they choose to pursue that additional qualification. This program offers a structured approach for novice teachers, professionals seeking to shift their specialization, and individuals aiming to deepen their knowledge in this field. It also provides graduate students who are current educators with a way to align their studies with pressing needs in their school environments.
