The Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies provides graduate programs for both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. As a founding member of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (IDEA), the department delivers multiple online graduate programs through the Great Plains IDEA university network. Students can utilize the Family Resource Center (FRC) and the Ruth Staples Child Development Laboratory (CDL). Marriage and Family Therapy students at the FRC provide psychotherapy services to couples, families, and individuals, both in-person and via telemental health for rural Nebraska communities. The FRC also serves as a research facility, offering students hands-on experience studying interventions with diverse family structures. Child development and early childhood education students gain practical teaching experience at the CDL while working directly with children and families. This facility doubles as a research lab, enabling students to conduct studies on child development and educational curricula. The CDL holds accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), placing it among the top 9% of such programs nationwide, and has been operating continuously since 1925.
