The interdisciplinary Great Plains Studies specialization explores the relationship between communities and ecosystems across this expansive, low-population region. Encompassing territories from the Missouri River to the Rocky Mountains and from the Rio Grande into Canada's prairie provinces, this academic focus is coordinated by the Center for Great Plains Studies within the College of Arts and Sciences. As an officially recognized University of Nebraska program across all campuses, it offers graduate students in various UNL departments - including Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Design disciplines - the opportunity to pursue this regional studies concentration alongside their primary degree programs.
